Description:In 2021, the dominant greenhouse gases released into Earth’s atmosphere continued to accumulate. The three largest contributors to global warming—carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide—all reached new record highs. For carbon dioxide, this was the highest level in at least 800,000 years. During the year, the climate continued to respond to the ongoing increase in greenhouse gases and resulting warming.
