Description:Flagstaff is majestically located on a plateau in the center of the largest stand of Ponderosa Pine in the United States, at the base of the San Francisco Peaks (Arizona's highest mountains, 12,633 feet). The plateau, with an average elevation of around 7,000 feet, is the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau and curves from the Grand Canyon southeastward across mid-Arizona and then eastward into New Mexico. Flagstaff is the hub for north-south and east-west travel across northern Arizona, and is the "gateway'' to numerous recreational areas in Arizona, including the Grand Canyon.
