Description:In 2005, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife established the Market Squid Fishery Management Plan (MSFMP). This management plan implemented several control rules, including: a weekend closure; a restricted access program; a fishing-year catch limit of 107,047 mt; gear restrictions; and a proxy for maximum sustainable yield of 0.30 proportional egg escapement [(S(F)]. In this study, we provide an update of the biological and fishery parameters of the egg escapement model that is used to monitor the status of market squid productivity and spawning output off California.
