Description:Hurricane Fern was probably spawned by a tropical wave that had moved out of the Caribbean in the beginning of the month. Early on the 3d, a tropical depression was located in the Gulf of Mexico near 27.S0N., 87.s0w. This depression moved slowly northwestward to north of Lake Ponchartrain by the morning of the 5th.
