Description:Methods were developed using Fourier transform near-infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIRS) to acquire spectral data from otoliths of three coastal pelagic species collected in the California Current ecosystem: Pacific Sardine Sardinops sagax, Pacific Mackerel Scomber japonicus, and Northern Anchovy Engraulis mordax. FT-NIRS spectral data were used to build calibration models to evaluate fish-age prediction capabilities and the potential use of ages produced from FT-NIRS in stock assessments.
