Description:"The Kemp's ridley (Lepidochelys kempi) is the most endangered of the sea turtles and is facing possible extinction. Among the goals of the international program aimed at restoration of the Kemp's ridley sea turtle population is head starting, with a view toward establishing a new nesting colony at the Padre Island National Seashore near Corpus Christi, Texas. The ridley has only one known nesting beach, located near the village of Rancho Nuevo, Tamaulipas State, Mexico, in the western Gulf of Mexico.(Chavez, Contreras and Hernandez 1968)"--Introduction, paragraph 1.
