Description:The National Weather Service (NWS) has begun a far-reaching modernization which will be completed during the 1990s. NWS products and services, indeed the NWS itself, will change profoundly as technology enables improvements in observations, interactive processing and telecommunications. The key to the efficient NWS use of advances in these fields will be the use of computer technology. The revolution in mini and microcomputers has already enabled NWS to speed up its preparation of warnings and forecasts and to disseminate them more quickly, to the benefit of a growing community of increasingly sophisticated users.
