Description:A site in the Columbia River estuary between Miller Sands and Pillar Rock Island (River Kilometers 40-42) (Fig. 1) is being investigated by the COE, Portland District under the Long-Term Management Strategy for dredged-material management in the Columbia River estuary. The proposed disposal site has been identified as an active erosion location. Since 1958, this area has eroded from a shallow subtidal habitat (0 to 1.8 m (0 to 6 ft) Columbia River Datum (CRD)) to the present depth of 7.6 m (25 ft) CRD. Approximately 9.2 million m3 (12 million yd3 of material have eroded. The annual erosion rate at this area is estimated to be 53,515 m3 (70,000 yd3) of material
