Description:This report summarizes the outcomes of 32 BREP awards, totaling $4,500,000, funded by NOAA Fisheries in fiscal years 2017 and 2018. Most of the work discussed here occurred during calendar years 2018 and 2019. This report shows that bycatch reduction research, as with any research, can result in a range of outcomes. Finding technological solutions to bycatch problems is a multi-year and multi-disciplinary endeavor requiring technical expertise, collaboration with fishermen, and effective communication with managers.
