Description:The National Weather Service (NWS) is implementing an unprecedented Modernization and Associated Restructuring (MAR) program which is bringing improvements in weather and hydrologic warning and forecast services in the United States. With the high resolution data sets and tremendously increased information processing power that are becoming available at the field office level, the opportunity exists to capitalize extensively on the overlapping aspects of hydrologic and meteorologic science and operations. One of the principal goals is to use the new MAR technologies and advances in hydrometeorological science to improve the quality, quantity, temporal span, resolution, and timeliness of hydrological forecasts. This document describes the hydrometeorological operations and supporting activities being implemented for the new Hydrologic Services Program in the modernized NWS.
