Description:NOAA Fisheries maintains regional data collection programs and conducts population assessments to provide scientific advice for the sustainable management of U.S. fisheries. The data inputs used to support fish assessments vary based on a number of factors, including species characteristics, fishery and management characteristics, and ecosystem characteristics. In order to better understand data used by the national stock assessment enterprise, NOAA Fisheries undertook a systematic investigation of currently available data inputs to support fish assessments and the remaining needs to develop science products in support of sustainable fisheries management.
