Description:The range of activities which impact the oceans and over which Congress expressed its concern by approving the research provisions of the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act of 1972 is broad. During Fiscal Year 1975 a large number of national and international research activities were in progress which will contribute to a better understanding of the marine environment and how it is affected by man's activities. This chapter provides a brief summary of these marine environmental research efforts and findings.
