Description:CISESS was launched in 2019 as a joint cooperative institute, co led by the University of Maryland ( and North Carolina State University ( This report was presented to and endorsed by the SAB at its meeting on April 27, 2023. The Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research requested that the SAB oversee the review of CISESS per the mandate in the SAB Charter. The Review panel ranked CISESS as Outstanding fully meeting its goals and objectives and satisfying guidelines provided by the NOAA OAR CI program office, and is endorsed by the SAB. During the review, the panel made 6 overall recommendations for further consideration by NOAA University of Maryland, and North Carolina State University in regard to extending CISESS.
