Description:Survival ofjuvenile salmonids through turbines at hydroelectric projects on the Columbia River has long been lower than desired. While other routes past hydroelectric projects, such as spillways and bypass systems, typically result in higher survival rates for juvenile salmonids, improving turbine survival could offer great benefits, especially in low flow years such as 2001. Studies to estimate turbine survival under current and potential operating conditions need to be undertaken. This study addresses turbine survival under the National Marine Fisheries Service Biological Opinion for the Federal Columbia River Power System and the Northwest Fisheries Science Center Salmon Research Plan.
