Description:Between 1982 and 1992, five different 6-meter buoys occupied the mooring, and the upper mooring was replaced three times. By the start of 1992, this was NDBC’s second oldest synthetic mooring. (Note: NDBC’s oldest IC mooring is at station 46005, approximately 400 km west of the mouth of the Columbia River. It has been in use for over 11 years.) Uncertain as to how much longer it would last, NDBC decided to deploy a new mooring at 46001 during the summer of 1992. Rather than discard the old IC mooring, NDBC decided that this would be a good mooring to try to recover. When the new mooring was deployed in July of 1992, an inflatable marker buoy was used to hold up the old mooring until it could be recovered.
