Description:In 1979, during the initial designation process of Site F, a pilot study was conducted at and adjacent to Site F and the proposed expansion area by researchers from Oregon State University under contract to the COE. The COE and the Environmental Protection Agency are joint designators of the site. Together, they decided that the proposed expansion could take place if the biological communities have not changed significantly since 1979. Therefore, in March 1992, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) agreed to cooperate with the COE to conduct the first of two biological surveys at the present disposal area and the proposed expansion area. In addition, an inshore area near the north spit was sampled to determine if it could be used as an alternative to the expansion area. This report contains the results from the first biological survey (April 1992).
