Description:The seafood industry has been a major provider of exponential economic growth for several years, on both an international and local scale. It is argued that fish has supported food insecurity and many nutritional concerns, especially for those of low-income status. Furthermore, the industries’ success is due to seafood and seafood products being so versatile. Seafood can also be used for medicinal properties in addition to nutritional value. In 2018, fish production was estimated at 179 million tons, with the Americas ranking 2nd in production (FAO, 2020). Louisiana alone, reported the production of 898,851,377 pounds of seafood with its top three fish specimens including blue catfish, red snapper, and black drum (NOAA, 2019). This high volume in production has created an abundance of jobs, therefore paralleling its economic expansion. Although, despite the exponential growth economically, there has been a great concern in
controlling seafood’s high perishability.
