Description:Scientists from the Alaska Fisheries Science Center conducted acoustic-trawl surveys in the Gulf of Alaska during late winter and early spring 2020 to estimate the distribution and abundance of walleye pollock (Gadus chalcogrammus) at several of their main spawning grounds. These pre-spawning pollock surveys covered the Shumagin Islands (DY-202001; 11-18) Feb. and Shelikof Strait (202003; 2-16 March) areas. The Shelikof Strait area has been surveyed annually in winter since 1981 (except in 1982, 1999, and 2011). The Shumagin Islands area has been surveyed annually in winter since 2001 (except in 2004, 2011, and 2019), as well as in 1994, 1995, and 1996.
