Description:Understanding the services that ecosystems provide to society, and the value of those services, is critical for decision-making under current and evolving ecosystem-based management approaches. In the United States, national directives have called on federal resource management agencies to develop and promote institutional policies and processes that consider ecosystem services in planning, investments, and regulatory contexts. This report provides insight from employees of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), the federal agency responsible for managing the Nation’s living marine resources, on the use of ecosystem service values (ESV) in marine management.
