Description:Unoccupied aerial system (UAS) surveys of large populations of animals that form herds have been used in the context of ecology and conservation (Koh and Wich 2012, Anderson and Gaston 2013, Hodgson et al. 2016). UAS can capture high resolution overhead imagery on dense groupings of animals, helping to overcome the limitations of a lateral perspective from boat or land based surveys (Ries et al. 1998, Hodgson et al. 2016).
