Description:The Albemarle-Pamlico Sound system in North Carolina is a relatively undeveloped estuary without major shipping lanes, industrial activity or a densely urbanized coastline. Instead, it is characterized by extensive wetlands along its shoreline with agriculture and forests as the major land use types within its watershed. However, it has had a history of water quality problems. This publication examines the long-term trends in water quality and fisheries resources for the Sound focusing on nutrient production in the drainage basin, estuarine water quality, and fisheries. The report discusses major environmental issues concerning the estuary that are facing its resource managers.
