  • Description:
The Lake Superior charter fishing industry was surveyed during 1987. Information was collected regarding: (1) economic impact of charter fishing, (2) customer characterization, and (3) business profile of the charter boats. This report describes the economic impact and customer characterization of only the Minnesota charter boats. Minnesota's charter industry has grown by 20 percent each year since 1985 (the first year state licenses were required). The 67 boats operating in 1988 had substantial economic impact in coastal communities. Seventy-six percent of the charter customers (16,000 people) said they came to the area solely or primarily for charter fishing.
