  • Description:
The major objective of the National Sea Grant Program is "to increase the under standing, assessment, development, utilization and conservation of the Nation's ocean and coastal resources by providing assistance to promote a strong educational base, responsive research and training activities, and broad and prompt dissemination of knowledge and techniques." The Sea Grant Program at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution supports these objectives through its many research efforts. During the past few years the Institution has focused its attention towards our coastal zone and the scientific and policy aspects of this region. Our increased emphasis has benefitted from local, state and federal interaction. Support from the Office of Sea Grant has made many of these interactions possible and has led to several new studies and workshops. The continued growth of our Sea Grant Program has had positive effects on other research and policy work throughout the Institution. During the past year we had programs in Coastal Zone - Geological and Physical Aspects; Coastal Zone-Biological Aspects; Chemical Processes and Pollution; Aqua culture; and Marine Policy.
