  • Description:
    Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) has been active with the Sea Grant program since December 1, 1971. Virginia Tech*s first three years were directed toward developing an effective and efficient Marine Advisory Project (MAP). In 1974, the university received its first research project and in 1977 its first education project. The program was evaluated to Coherent Area status in 1980. Subject areas include: Human Food Resources: Mineral elements in seafood, Seafood processing production systems, Utilization of wastes: Pelleted seafood wastes as fish meal, Fertilizing plants with fish solubles, Sound waves as prospecting tools (Ocean Engineering), Seafood products education, marine advisory services
