Description:This report summarizes activities associated with the Institution's Matamek Research Station during 1983. Research was conducted on the bio logical, chemical and physical environment of streams and rivers, principally in the Moisie and Matamek River watersheds, on the effects of beaver in shaping the dynamics of aquatic ecosystems, on salmonid ecology, on decomposition dynamics, on invertebrate community dynamics, on sedimentary diatom responses to acid precipitation, and on microbial production. Canadian universities, American universities, the University College of North Wales, the Quebec government, and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution cooperated in this program.
