  • Description:
The hydrographic observations reported here were part of an extensive study designed to investigate the variability of the thermohaline environment and the associated large-scale circulation in the Gulf of Maine on a seasonal basis. The hydrographic measurements (pressure, temperature, salinity, oxygen, beam attenuation, phosphate, silicate and nitrate/nitrite) were obtained in Georges, Jordan, and Wilkinson Basin in the Gulf of Maine and directly east of Boston across Massachusetts Bay as part of a study of currents and sediment transport in this region. In addition to the hydrographic program, moored temperature, salinity and pressure measurements were made at the center of the major basins and current temperature and light transmission observations on the sills between these basins.
