  • Description:
This 11 1/2 x 15 inch newspaper type document is the results of the salmon and herring fisherman's income survey for 1979, cosponsored by the United Fishermen of Alaska (UFA) and the Alaska Sea Grant Program. We trust this will be useful in personal financial planning and will give a realistic picture of fisherman's incomes to the general public, state and federal officials, and the financial and business community. The values of gross and net earnings presented here reflect the characteristics of a sample of the total population of Alaska salmon and herring fishermen, and have not yet been expanded to represent the entire fishing population. Also, because cooperation was strictly voluntary and no personal identification was used, the individual responses are unverified. Nevertheless, we do feel that this survey's results represent the best and most up-to-date information on net incomes for salmon and herring fishermen currently available anywhere. Areas covered in this survey are: Southeast, Cook Inlet, Prince William Sound, Kodiak, and Bristol Bay.
