Description:The 2021 Pacific marine mammal stock assessments include revised reports for 22 Pacific marine mammal stocks under NMFS jurisdiction, including 6 “strategic” stocks: Hawaiian monk seal, Southern Resident killer whale, California/Oregon/Washington humpback whale, Eastern North Pacific blue whale, California/Oregon/Washington fin whale, and Main Hawaiian Islands Insular false killer whale. New abundance estimates are available for 19 stocks: Northern elephant seal, Hawaiian monk seal, Southern Resident killer whale, 4 stocks of U.S. West Coast harbor porpoise, Dall’s porpoise, Pacific white-sided dolphin, Common bottlenose dolphin, Striped dolphin, Short-beaked common dolphin, Long-beaked common dolphin, Northern right whale dolphin, Baird’s beaked whale, California/Oregon/Washington stocks of humpback, fin and minke whales, and Eastern North Pacific blue whale. New information on human-caused sources of mortality and serious injury is included for those stocks where new data are available or resulted in a significant change compared with previously-documented levels of anthropogenic mortality and injury.
