Description:A methodology for the analysis of fishery management policies is given, using a multiple cohort model of the North Carolina brown shrimp fishery as an example. This model provides for characterizations of catch biomass and catch revenue as a function of several parameters subject to management control such as fishing net mesh size, total fishing effort, the time the fishing season opens and the time the season closes. This paper focuses on current management techniques which determine the preferred opening date of the fishing season based on a weekly sample of the length and abundance of shrimp.
