Description:

Within days of the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill, Alaska Sea Grant assembled a legal team to identify tools that would revamp regulations for oil transport and response. The Alaska Oil Spill Commission adopted the team's policy and technology recommendations, and soon afterward the Alaska State Legislature passed laws based on this legal research team report. The laws can be credited with vastly improved oil transport oversight, spill prevention, and spill response in Alaska. These eight reports make up Appendix M of the publication Spill: The Wreck of the Exxon Valdez, Alaska Oil spill Commission final report, 1990.
