Description:Drum Inlet was opened in December 1972 by the Army Corps of Engineers to provide access for commercial and sports fishermen through the Core Banks and raise the salinity of Core Sound. The purpose of this research was to study the flow dynamics of an inlet to determine what influence it had on the salinity, tidal dynamics and circulation of Core Sound and to suggest where dredging should be done to keep the inlet open.
