Description:Built in 1891, the "City of Glasgow" was one of the largest Great Lakes wooden bulk carriers in its day. Following several groundings and a conversion, the ship finally beached itself in 1917 in Lilly Bay, Lake Michigan. During the fall of 2000, students and staff from East Carolina University (ECU) and the State Historical Society of Wisconsin (SHSW) conducted an archaeological survey in Lilly Bay. The Glasgow wreck site was mapped and the ship's condition analyzed. This report presents the results of recent archaeological investigations including an extensive overview of environmental conditions at the wreck site and a detailed history of the vessel.
