Description:This project, to design and develop a fiber optic communication link between two deep-diving submersible vehicles, is a continuation of work done by student teams in the UNH Ocean Projects Course. Described here are investigations of several different frequency multiplexing and demultiplexing schemes that could be used to form a composite signal from two video signals and to recover each individual signal after transmission. Experimentation with several prototypes helped determine design feasibility when applied in an overall system and served to identify the practical considerations and problems that must be overcome in order to achieve the desired results using an analog frequency multiplexing approach.
