Description:When Congress established the National Sea Grant College Program in 1966, it was not building an academic ivory tower. From the first, Sea Grant was intended to be a vigorous participant in the practical everyday world of people. Encompassing three major components--scientific research, advisory services, and education --the program was designed to marshal university resources to address almost every aspect of the marine and coastal environment: fisheries, aquaculture, seafood processing, wetland management, coastal land loss, marine industry, recreation, economics, and law. The concept has worked remarkably well. Twenty-five years later, with a network of 30 programs in universities and research institutions nationwide, Sea Grant has proved its value over and over. This brochure describes Louisiana Sea Grant's recent achievements and plans for the future.
