Description:In order to better understand the process of bioinvasion, it is necessary to determine what exotic species are successful in an area and what characteristics of that area allow for their success. In the Gulf of Maine, the exotic tunicates "Styela clava" and "Ascidiella aspersa" are well established in areas other than the New Hampshire coast; other species such as "Botrylloides violaceous" have become dispersed along the entire length of New England, including New Hampshire. The authors of this student research project developed several designs to track settlement patterns of these invasive ascidians and used laboratory tests to determine salinity thresholds.
