Description:The general goal of this pilot project is to evaluate the benefits and costs of relaying oysters from closed oyster reefs to clean oyster fishing grounds. The project aims to identify the production characteristics and practices of participating oystermen; to determine the level of effort, amount of time and capital resources, and type of equipment employed in the relaying process; and to determine the accompanying costs incurred and benefits received by the different participating economic units. The results of this pilot project will be used as a basis of comparing the economic desirability of the oyster relaying techniques to other methods such as depuration or cultch planting.
