Description:If the ecological health of U.S. coastal waters is to be restored and protected, significant progress must be made in controlling pollutants coming from lands that drain into these waters. In recent years, our understanding of the linkages between land practices and aquatic health have increased immeasurably. The aim of this workshop was to assess our scientific understanding about the impact of land-use and population growth on the health of near-shore waters in the mid-Atlantic region; the goal was to reach a consensus on the current state of knowledge and the kind of information researchers and managers must have to more effectively manage land development for protecting the integrity of aquatic systems.
