Description:1974 marks the fifth consecutive year that the Scuba Safety Project has assembled a census of fatal underwater accidents involving U.S. citizens both in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world. This work began in 1969 at the University of Rhode Island under a grant from the Food and Drug Administration of the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Through the years, assistance has also been obtained from the Sea Grant Office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The 1974 effort has been funded by the Manned Undersea Science and Technology Office of' the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration,U.S. Department of Commerce and by the Underwater Safety Project Office of the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Department of Transportation.
