Description:The American lobster, "Homarus americanus", has been extensively studied over the past century, mainly because it is the single most valuable marine resource in New England. Nearly 98% of landings are from trap fisheries. Observations of the behavior of lobsters in the laboratory suggests that lobsters move in and out of the traps. The goal of this student project was to design and build a system capable of continuously monitoring lobster movements in and out of lobster traps in their natural habitat.
