Description:The Pacific salmon industry has become increasingly concerned about U.S. imports of fresh Atlantic pen-raised salmon, a new product that has built a very strong niche in traditional U.S. salmon markets. In 1985, researchers conducted a survey of U.S. fish wholesalers to determine their attitudes in three areas: substitutability between pen-raised and wild salmon in the U.S., what factors are promoting pen-raised salmon here, and their assessment of future marketing developments for pen-raised salmon in the U.S. Results of the survey returns (about 24 percent responded) are presented; the sample includes both firms that have sold Pacific salmon and those that have not.
