Description:Because Florida has the largest area of urbanized or built-up islands in the United States, land on barrier islands will become either unavailable or prohibitively expensive and development pressure will shift to other waterfront property. This report focuses on these non-barrier shorelines, particularly the marshy open Gulf shoreline of Florida between Tarpon Springs and Crystal River. It includes information on geological processes both physical and chemical; study methods such as geologic mapping, coring, seismic profiling, and analyses; the study areas which include berm-ridge marsh, marsh peninsulas and marsh archipelago; shelf embayments; geologic resources and geohazards; and references.
