Description:Twenty-five extended abstracts and a panel discussion on bycatch management are included in this book, the proceedings of a 1996 American Fisheries Society symposium on bycatch. The AFS meeting was convened because of increasing concern about bycatch of fishes, crustaceans, mammals, and turtles in commercial and recreational fisheries. The meeting helped define the impact on target and bycatch species, and the socioeconomic consequences of reducing bycatch. Research contributions include fisheries bycatch estimation, impact, and mitigation.
