Description:The Armand Bayou Watershed, located in southeast Harris County, Texas, has experienced vast changes over the years, especially from agriculture, drainage channels, residential and commercial development, and groundwater withdrawals. As with most of southeast Texas, particularly around Houston, the watershed is relatively flat and receives an average rainfall of 48 inches per year. The habitat was once dominated by tall-grass prairie, punctuated by forest corridors along stream channels and flatwood forests across much of the lower part of the watershed. Some of the original features remain, particularly at the Armand Bayou Nature Center, despite the impact of heavy development over the years. The Armand Bayou watershed today is a place for people to live and work, but it is also a place to connect with natural heritage of the region. The Watershed Plan encompasses multiple phases. The first phase detailed in this report establishes the baseline conditions and an initial vision for the watershed. The report is illustrated by award-winning photographs of the flora and fauna found in the watershed.
