Description:Connecticut is the largest producer of natural seed oysters in the Northeast. Approximately 200 seed oystermen are involved in an industry worth $300,000-$700,000 annually. This guide was prepared to inform the audience on the art of seed oystering; including equipment, methodology and special techniques used by seed oystermen in Connecticut. General oyster biology, ecology and culture practices are reviewed in this publication. Important seafood safety and public health issues, as well as state guidelines and regulations for seed oystering are discussed in this 2006 updated publication.
