Description:Biscayne Bay, Florida, experienced damage to shoreline boating facilities and docked/anchored vessels as a result of Hurricane Andrew. The purposes of this project were to assess damage to in- the-water vessels, to map the locations of these vessels, and to determine areas of potential impacts of vessel sinkings and wreckage on the bay environment. Problems encountered with available remotely sensed data sources and the coordination of the data following such a sudden catastrophic event are discussed. The project provides guidelines for developing hurricane vessel damage assessment strategies to cope with similar future natural hazards.
