Description:The forecast operations of the Kansas Pilot Project (KaPP) have identified the basic requirements that the Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) needs to satisfy in order to meet forecaster needs. Discussed in detail are the three areas which ASOS cannot sense automatically: clouds above 12,000 feet, some remarks, and certain aspects of present weather.
