Description:Cetacean aerial line-transect survey data have two inherent sources of visibility bias that result in missed animals: availability bias, which occurs when animals present within the field of view are undetectable because they are submerged, and perception bias, which occurs when animals within the field of view are available for detection but are missed by the observer. To estimate perception bias for large cetaceans during visual aerial surveys, imagery was concurrently collected on a downward-facing camera mounted to a port in the fuselage of Turbo Commander 600-840 survey aircraft in 2018 and 2019.
