Description:What follows is a description of how trip-selection is accomplished in the North Pacific. Specifically, it is a description of the web-based system designed to determine which fishing trips are required to obtain observer or electronic monitoring coverage in the Federal groundfish and halibut fisheries of Alaska. Because the system was first designed to use declared trips to deploy observers, it has been termed the Observer Declare and Deploy System (ODDS). The ODDS was created and is maintained by the Fishery Monitoring and Analysis Division (FMA) of the Alaska Fisheries Science Center. This document describes the ODDS as of August 2020.
