Description:On June 10 and 11 of 1971 a Symposium on the Measurement of Cloud Elements was held at the University of Chicago, Department of Geophysical Sciences. Professor Robert G. Knollenberg of the University of Chicago hosted the meeting and Dr. William D. Scott of the National Hurricane Research Laboratory, NOAA, was the program chairman. The objectives of the meeting were to improve our measurements of cloud elements and, perhaps, the planning of a workshop to accomplish this. The attendance consisted almost entirely of scientists directly in contact with the instruments and their problems. In this respect, each person was an expert on instrumentation. Also, the circumstances brought together individuals with real, positive, constructive criticisms, and this led to a very productive meeting. The proceedings are recorded here. Originally the proceedings were presented in plain language without eloquence. However, in the writing, it was necessary to minimize colloqulsims and such. I sincerely hope that the papers have not suffered on this account.
