    This report summarizes and compares product usage patterns of Denver's DARE-II and Norman's Pre-AWIPS workstations during the 1992-93 cool season. All actions taken by forecasters on the workstations' graphics devices were automatically recorded, and, together with forecasters' responses to questionnaires, comprised the data which were analyzed for this report. From the product usage logs, we report how often products and capabilities were used by the forecasters at both sites. Particular emphasis is placed on advanced products such as Doppler radar and profiler information, along with high-resolution model output. In addition, we examined the effects that product availability, staffing, and severe weather had on product use at Norman and Denver. We found that Denver loaded more products than Norman, even though there were two additional workstations at Norman. This disparity may have been due, in part, to one month's missing data from one of Norman's workstations, and to the numerous Grid-to-Graph model products (graphics generated locally from gridded data) that were available and used only at Denver. Pregenerated model graphics were used more extensively at Norman, while Grid-to-Graph model products were accessed more frequently at Denver. Overall model use, however, was comparable at both locations. In examining how product use varied on days with severe weather, we analyzed not only the frequency of individual products, but also the range of different products that forecasters used. At Denver, there was a higher frequency of product calls and a wider range of different products, while Norman had a higher frequency of product calls, but nearly the same range of different products as on nonsevere days. Procedure loads occurred more frequently at Denver than Norman during the 4-month study. In addition, we found that forecasters at both locations regularly used the overlay capability when loading graphics with images or other graphics products.
